Papers & Presos
Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work on fun projects. Most have had some focus on integrating a standalone system to an Apple OS X Server based infrastructure. A challenge with any of these projects is finding all the information necessary to make it work, read through, understand, then apply. Here, you can take the fruits of my labor and, ideally, save you some time in working on a project. A few of these are a bit more outdated, and I’ll try my best to supplement the content with newer versions.
See something you have worked on or have your own guide on the same topic? Please feel free to send me an email and I’ll add your content here as well!

Integrating Google Apps with OpenDirectory
Many organizations are looking at utilizing Google Applications. This service provides a web-based platform allowing individuals to share and collaborate. For a small organization creating and maintaining logins for 10-15 people isn’t too difficult of a task. However, as you move to more complex deployments with 100′s if not 1000′s of individuals, finding a way to allow allow existing user names and passwords is essential. Paired with this is the ability to keep user data secure and ensure only those who should have access do, indeed, have access.
This guide leverages a web-based technology, SAML, to allow Google Apps to tie into this service, which, in turn, is connected via LDAP to OS X’s OpenDirectory.

CommunigatePro & OpenDirectory
This was a cool project to work on, solely to get a better understanding of how Kerberos can be extended to other products and services. This paper covers the process to tie ComminugatePro into a OS X Server Kerberos realm. By doing so, once a user logs in and obtains a TGT (Ticket granting ticket), services tied into the realm will automagically authenticate the user.
If you are looking at a way to understand how Kerberos does work with other services, this should provide a basic workflow process. The specifics as to how to perform the Communigate actions would need to be the process for your product / service.
