Review & Overview of Wireless Timer Remote for Canon T2i

After looking online for a wireless timer remote for my Canon T2i, I found this one and wanted to provide a video review / overview of the device. I was looking for a device that could work to take pictures with a timer and a remote, but didn’t want to two devices to accomplish the task. Enter the TW-282 from Pixel Technologies. You can find the device on Bay.

Take a watch and let me know if you have any extra questions!

  1. Thanks! I asked several Hong Kong-based sellers if the TW-282 performed all the (intervalometer) functions in both wireless and wired mode and ran up against a language barrier. Their eBay listing description is in somewhat fractured English and not entirely clear. You answered my only question: It does everything in either mode. I plan to shoot star trails in the desert and I wanted to control two cameras simultaneously (a Sony A900 and a Canon 5D Mark II). The TW-282 will do that with a splitter cable and the correct cable for each camera – and allow me to stand back from the cameras (like in a warn car!) and still see the progress.

  2. Glad this helped out a bit! Would love to see your finished results.

  3. I learned how to shoot the stars using a DSLR from a professional photographer recently while in Death Valley and got some good results when I tried. I want to work on refining that skill on a return trip there soon. Mixed in with pictures I took around Death Valley at the link below are three star photos. The captions include the settings and equipment used for each picture.

  4. Thanks for the useful video Randy! I found it while trying to compare this with the Yongnuo MC-36R which appears to be equivalent but slightly cheaper. However, the youtube video I found said the Yongnuo felt a bit cheap and some functions didn’t work properly and some comments on dpreview said they had problems with the Yongnuo randomly firing. How does the quality of the Pixel feel and have you had any problems with it so far? Thanks.

  5. I looked at the MC-36R a well, but it just seemed the body was a bit cheap on it. The plastic body feels pretty decent on the one from Pixel and I have not yet had it fire randomly.

  6. Hello, just bought this timer. I am a bit confused on using it for time lapse.

When it say 99 shots does this mean it will only do 99 automatic shots?

I want to set it to fire off an unlimited amount of shots at a certain second interval, say every 2 seconds. How do I do this with the timer?

    Thanks for any help.

  7. Hi there Lawrence,

If you switch the display on the number of shots to take to — that will continue to fire off shots until the card fills up or the battery runs out. Hope that helps!

  8. Thanks.

    I figured it out.

Can’t wait to give this a try this weekend.

  9. One other question.

What if I want my exposure to be under a second?

For LONG do I set 00 00 00 and then set the desired exposure on my Canon?

    L

  10. Nevermind,

Figured it out. I set my T2i to TV Priority on the dial, set my exposure to .5″ and set the TW-282 to 00 00 00 on LONG and it worked great. The exposure stayed oat .5″. I also tried longer exposures as well as shorter and the TW-282 did not override my settings in the camera.

  11. Does the TW-282 remember the most recently used settings, or do I have reset everything each time I use it?

  12. Hi,

Does the remote power down in the same manner as the wireless timer? Do you press and hold a button to shut it off?

    Thanks,

    Jon

  13. I’ve had both the remote and the receiver remember my settings.

  14. Jon,

The remote powers down after about 30 seconds of inactivity. To turn it back on, you simple press any button.

  15. In the section “Timing plan for shooting” of the manual downloaded from the manufacturer’s website it states that the number of shots can be set from 1 to 99, but doesn’t mention the “- -” setting (limited by memory card and/or battery capacity). Several eBay sellers state 1-9999 shots or “infinity” in the time-lapse mode. Can you confirm they’re wrong about 1-9999 shots being settable?

  16. With the remote i can set a defined number of shots from 1-99. Anything beyond 99 needs to be set in the — mode, and that will run until you fill up your memory card, or the camera is turned off. There isn’t a way to set a defined number of shots greater than 100.

  17. Thanks for the confirmation. It may be a design oversight. On the other hand, many people wouldn’t have the patience to set the number of shots when they get into the thousands required for several hours’ or days’ shooting for a smooth time-lapse movie.

  18. hey there randy
i just got this product as it said its compatible with my d90 nikon
its workin but once i hook it to my camera it doesnt work when i release the shutter..
any ideas? could it be the cable or the device itself?! or do i need to change somethin in the camera for it to work?!

  19. Tina,

Make sure the connection is right with the connector cable. I reversed mine since the mini-stereo looking connection could fit in both locations. When it was reversed, it did not fire off the shutter.

  20. Randy! thank-you! this has been SO helpful. thanks for sharing your knowledge and your time. appreciate it : )
