New project is live!
I’ve had a thought in my mind for a while dealing with ways to take what I do, primarily the nuts & bolts aspect of technology, and find ways to make certain tips reach more people, obtain & solicit feedback from others, and provide a venue where a tech idea can be shared with instructional folks to get their ideas. For example, there might be a really cool new technology I’ve experienced or played around with and I want to hear how some people may use this with their students.
Likewise, there are always six or seven ways, at least, to solve any technology problem or issue. Sharing my thoughts, hearing others take on the idea allows for some really great ideas to emerge.
And that is where this site comes in. Why tech recess? Well, if we think back to the days back when us adults had recess time, we could mingle with our clique and share ideas. If we felt bold, we would co-mingle. My goal is to make that happen here.
I took some time to think about some of the things I remember from recess and how those can be illustrative examples of my vision and goals from this site:
- The grassy field: This represents my desire to keep the site open to new ideas, from everyone. Think back of how many games were just “made” by taking aspects of other games and chaining them together to make something new and exciting. Sometimes they didn’t work out so great, but we tried them, learned, and moved on.
- The wood chips: Today this is the rubbery base of the playground, but it allowed us to make mistakes, to fall, without getting hurt. Share some ideas here. Let others know what worked well and what didn’t work well so they can avoid the mistake. One of the best parts about the wood chips was every so often, a brand new batch arrived and we forgot about the old ones.
- The blacktop: A few more rules here, but if you had “blacktop” only recess, that means you spent a lot more time talking with others and sharing. Maybe you played a game and bounced a ball of someone. Here, let those be ideas.
- The playground equipment: When I think about the equipment, the first thing coming to my mind are servers, switched, and other tech equipment. Yes, this is the focus and foundation to which the site is built, but let’s work on expanding!
- Peers: This is you! There are only a few things one can play alone and after a while, they all get old. Just like ideas and learning, it takes others to make it exciting and provide real-world input. As this site grows and starts reaching new people, I want to have others involved. Share your ideas. Post links to things you have written.
So, there you have it. My vision of this site. I will work on adding content, so stay tuned and feel free to contribute some ideas!
